This was a Father's Day gift for my dad who is a contractor and also grew up around equipment like this. He LOVED it. Great photos, lots of info. It brought back some great memories for him of working on equipment with his father when he was younger. Gave this to my son in law for Christmas. He has loved heavy equipment his whole life and is certified to operate. He has wanted this book for awhile and we finally found it here. He had a great Christmas after getting this book, very informative!!

Bought this for my 3 year old son who LOVES tractors. While it is well above my son's level, the pictures are great (can you say pictures of tractors are beautiful???) and it is an interesting book for dad, too.

This book has been sitting on my kitchen table for nearly a week and has been leafed through, examined and discussed at length by a number of CAT aficionados - contractors, heavy equipment operators and diesel mechanics. They all raved about the detail and accuracy of the historical information and level of technical detail. It created an interesting conversation of "remember when."Well done (they are a tough bunch).

This is a fun coffee table book. Not exactly corporate propaganda, but a history and review of Caterpillar equipment. Anyone with a penchant for big machines will enjoy it.

Simply put, Mr. Raczon tells an excellent story about one of the most iconic brands in history. The book is a superb blend of no-kidding product information mixed with stories from Caterpillar's past — and the cherry on top is the outstanding photography. It paints a great picture of how far the company has come, and Raczon, a well-respected and seasoned construction industry veteran, provides brilliant insight throughout. This book is a must-read for any machinery enthusiast.

Bought this as a present for my father, a lover of all things Caterpillar and construction related. He was very happy with the book and I'm sure it will remain on the coffee table for many years to come.

I grabbed this book as a research tool, fully expecting it to be dry reading. Happy surprise! This is a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of the intimate daily lives of centuries-old England. I'd go so far as to see it's a must-read for anyone researching the period and wanting to gain crucial facts for writing about it. The author covers architectural styles, building materials, interior decorating, and room-by-room discussions of urban and country homes.

This is a tiny book, an easy read, and includes pictures and descriptions. It's great for those studying the period who want to know how the richer folks lived during the period. It doesn't cover Regency hovels, which might be something to add in a new edition. I really liked the floor plans differentiating stand alone houses and terrace houses. I'd love to see this in more detail. It would also be nice to include a section just on London Squares, with more info on the central parks within the squares. Great starter book for history or architecture buffs.

This is a wonderful book! We have purchased a Georgian house that needs to be restored. This book has given me so much information about what is appropriate, why the houses are designed as they are, the historical context in which the designs evolved, and so much more. I appreciate it as a guide to design, but as a history buff, I appreciate it purely as a history book. Very easy to read with good definition of terms and diagrams that make the text truly make sense (a picture is worth a thousand words!)

This is a wonderfully produced book. Simple to read and understand, without feeling like it was written for children. I think it was produced somehow through the British National Trust, its black & white photos do not quite to it justice, but 2-D floors plans bring a better perspective to the book, making it a great reference in your library.

Great book

This is architectural in nature and doesn't really detail what's in the rooms, but it does a great job of covering styles, materials, conventions, and regulations during this time period.

This is a really fascinating little book that I am delighted to have. It's a real look into the Period that shines light on the places these people lived. Architecturally interesting.

Guide was a 2016 reprint of a 2006 edition without any added updates. This makes the guide out of date and very incomplete as between 2006 and 2016 several new Rail to Trails have been added in every Southeast state, that are not mentioned in this guide.Even some of the trails listed have been lengthened or connected to other trails so even the description of the trails listed are not always accurate. I was interested in viewing information on two South Carolina Rail to Trails that I have been told were excellent. The "Doodle Trail" and the "Swamp Rabbit Trail." Neither trail was listed in this book.

This was very good, an excellent read, for those getting started on how greenways, trails, what the ground is made of, whether you should take a mountain or road bike, mileage, all the things you want to know to decide if it's worth the trip. However, I got an older version, and didn't realize that. Make sure you get the most recent version/year published, because these trails, and rail-trails are constantly being added to. A trail I am on constantly was listed in here in FL shorter than it actually is, as I ride it frequently. For the money you spend for this book and as often as you will refer to it, spend the money and get the newest publication out there………….Terry

So, many of the rides are shorter than 20 miles, like several reviewers have posted. However, as a guide for my semi-retired mother, this book was perfect. The maps, descriptions, and trails are great. She's used to riding trails in the <20 mile range, and will be riding each trail hobbit-style (there and back again) doubling the effective mileage of the journey. So, if you're expecting dozens of 100 mile rides, then this isn't for you. But if you are among the many more casual riders looking for an enjoyable day or two trip to beautiful locales, then please purchase this book. It is a great buy, don't be discouraged by people expecting hardcore rides, leaving bad reviews!

This should be withdrawn from sale. The first printing was 2006 and this is a REPRINT. So, for instance in South Carolina it showed 7 trails, but there are now 35 in the system. Check out 'Rails to Trails Conservancy' for info-but return this guide as I am doing. PS the Conservancy has a "Southeast Guide" which included all of the current trails and it only costs about $1.50 more.

This book is OLD. I joined Rails to Trails and there is much more information available online. Because the trails described in this book have changed so much since publication the book is pretty useless. That's just my opinion.

good info but needs some further on-line research for a lot of places. seems to assume that everyone has a smart phone. not me. nice descriptions of most trails and good links to other information if you are on line.

This was a gift for my husband, to go with our new trykes..... There are so few trails, that most of the information in this book can be found on the internet easily. I am keeping it because the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is such a wonderful project......Oh well, It's the thought that counts, right? Happy riding.

Rambunctious Garden. Emma MarisEmma Maris can write and write well, and certain passages of Rambunctious Garden are equal to what I have witnessed in some of her essays on the environment and ecology, but as a whole, her book Is more a hodge pudge of rambling that borders on disorganized, and left this reader all but disinterested in what she had to "say."Perhaps this book has more appeal for a reader who has no background in ecology. Anyone with an ecological background will not find anything relatively new in Maris book. She spends a good amount of time explaining how next to nothing on the earth is pristine wilderness, or not under the footprint of man's progress, thus the halfhearted excuse for man to manage the entire Earth. There are so many situations in Rambunctious Garden that deal with: ifs, ands; ors; buts; it can be, that I just lost interest in what she had to write.Perhaps the most interesting section of her work dealt with those experimenting growing trees in areas in anticipation of climate change, yet she rightly includes the absence of all the other aspects (microorganisms etc) of what should be in those zones of anticipation if normal plant succession were to occur. Invasive species receive attention, mostly on islands- Hawaii, Costa Rica; Puerto Rico... but short shrift is given to the problems caused by invasives such as Zebra mussels, and none to trees such as European Buckthorn that have a tendency to take over wooded areas. We get the canned argument, that these invasives have a tendency to burn out over time, but what Maris really doesn't stress is it's not just these one or two invasives here or there, but a host of them with their spread ever accelerated by people.Very little attention is given to oceans, and the fish crop that feeds a large portion of the world. Other than the Duwamish River, little attention is given toward the subject of pollution, plastics in the environment, and most importantly, the ever increasing population of humans on the Earth. There is nothing wrong with Zero population growth, and that in itself would go a long way toward preserving ecosystems on the Earth, in particular the large iconic species, as she correctly submits they require so much space, one would also preserve all the other species that one finds in these particular habitats.She also writes about corridors, something not very new to anybody with the least bit of ecology background, but her approach is so abridged, she doesn't really explain the ramifications of her urban examples, nor the corridors required for iconic species to move about/migrate as the human population ever expands into their habitat.If Maris' goal with Rambunctious Garden was to raise questions, she has succeeded. If her goal was to offer real solutions for the plant and animal communities of the world, and how we as humans interact with, and preserve them due to our ever increasing population, and list for the riches the Earth provides for us, she has failed.

By page 23, the book already has resorted to name calling: "Wilderness cultist supreme Teddy Roosevelt".Anything you have ever thought was good appears to be bad. Preserving habitat: waste of time, plagued with radical ideas. We can't determine an accurate baseline (how things were and therefore should be) so why bother. Preserving species: waste of time, plagued with radical ideas. New species will be created and destroyed regardless of what we do. Just do what feels good at the moment; that should be the new environmentalist's law.And the title! I have no idea why the book is called Rambunctious Garden. A better title would be Rambling Grumbler.If we apply the principles in this book to historic architecture:Why bother repairing the Washington Monument after the earthquake? We have already modified it from its original form by adding an elevator and electricity. We can never keep it in its pristine, original condition, and we can easily replace it with something new and nice. Things change over time. Change is OK!Why bother preserving the beautiful mansions at Newport, Rhode Island? They will never be pristine and new again, and people have made changes to them over the years. No matter how careful we are in restoration efforts, we will change them from what they were. Since they will never be exactly like the way they were when they were new, we might as well replace them with 30 story apartment buildings. Think of the views!

Emma Marris challenges us to think differently about the living things all around us. In a post-wild world, we must live with the surviving species around us and not expect life to be undisturbed. Ms. Marris does an excellent job of building a conceptual foundation for treasuring and sharing our open land and the species that survive and colonize these spaces. Will you value the variety of life in a vacant lot, ignore it, or pave it over? Marris challenges us to accept all these interactions of life as valuable. Read, and think differently.

This book is controversial, but deliberately so I think, in trying to attract attention from conservationists and more readers. The premise is that we should not only concentrate on preserving so called pristine wilderness areas, as firstly there is really no such thing in the Anthropocene where human activities have impacted every inch of the planet. Reading the negative reviews before reading the book, I started with some trepidation, but it ended up being not as bad as I thought. Yes, 'true' wildlife lovers like me who live for untrammeled protected nature reserves may baulk at Marris' disparaging of the futility of trying to protect the tiny pockets of such places remaining on Earth, while welcoming change in species composition and artificial rewilding, but as the book progresses, the author softens her stance and argue for the conserving of everything and anything in addition to such conventional nature reserves as she sees value even in the most man-made urban landscapes.Like a good reporter, Marris is able to explain key concepts in ecology and the latest debates in an accessible manner, which alone already makes her slim book useful. The flip side is that she is no expert, and any conclusions drawn must be taken with a pinch of salt. What she does is open up the debate of what aspects of nature we should save, challenging our conventional ideas of what conservation is and in general making the reader think more critically on the issue.

Reading this for a college restoration class! Really great book. Looks at restoration projects in a whole new light and has been a wonderful read.

A must read for any conservationist. But to live within a sustainable Rambunctious Garden in the future will require clever ecologically based decisions. A point that did not come across strongly in the book. The objectives of conservation are not nessarily more diversity or bigger better as was suggested here. For this I have denied a 5th star.

Very Helpful book for anyone who is interested in growing a extraordinary Moustache or Beard. I told a guy I know about it who has a full beard and shaved his head and he asked to look at it. He was very impressed with the book and the way it explained things easily and clearly.

Adorable book for grandparents. You can't go wrong with little critter

We love love love little critter! I enjoyed these from my own childhood and this was a new one to me! My kids absolutely love dinosaurs and dinosaur bones so we were really excited to find this title offered. This arrived very quickly and in perfect condition, no blemishes or tears to the pages. In the story, little critter attends a field trip to the museum and all he wants to see are the dinosaur bones, just like my own kids would want to do, except the dinosaur exhibit is closed because a dinosaur bone is missing! It is fun for the kids to go on a literary tour through the meseum with their favorite little critter and find out if he will help find the dinosaur bone and get to see the dinosaur bone exhibit after all! (Spoiler alert! He does, of course!) I really loved the fact the spider and cricket are still hiding on every page, waiting for the kids to find, just as it was when I was younger and enjoying my own little critter books. It was a trip down memory lane to be able to read these to my kids and I am so happy they love little critter as much as I did! It is even exciting for me to find new titles that interest my kids as well! This book was a little difficult for my emergent reader and she needed some help, but she still enjoyed both listening to and practicing her reading skills with this book. My older son, who is a higher level reader, really enjoyed reading this book out loud as well as being read too. It was not overly difficult or challenging but it still kept him engaged. He loves to read this to his younger siblings because we all love little critter and all things dinosaur and dinosaur bones! This is another great title in the little critter series and I am happy to add this in to my collection!

My daughter started out reading these books 13 years ago and now I have a son. I can tell you that having these books on hand helped her reach her AR reading goal every month in school. She could take the test on the book in 1st grade and really get points and awards in class which boosted her self esteem. We love the art of the newer critter books a bit better than the older ones but the stories are perfect. This time around I plan on getting lots of these books for my son because early reading is so essential!

In this book, Little Critter is visiting the museum on a class field trip, and is excited to see the dinosaur exhibit; however, the exhibit is closed because a dinosaur bone is missing. Little Critter then searches the museum for the missing bone, getting into some mischief along the way. Our 3 year old son loves dinosaurs, and even though this book doesn't focus on dinosaurs as much as I thought it would, he still loves this book. He's wanted to read it at least ten times this week alone. And he likes to sit quietly and look at the book by himself too, flipping through the pages and studying each one. It's a great addition to our Little Critter collection, and our son's current favorite.

Mercer Mayer always delivers great stories to listen to and to read as a child, and have read to your child.My son loves both of his grandparents and this book helps him to get both of them to read to him at the same time. Reading their individual parts here and there.Great books for kids!!!

Cute story and pictures. My daughter and nephew are in the book stage so I’m buying them here and there so they can get the jist of story time! I love how you can afford these and they also have a huge collection! You can also write your child’s name in the front if you’d like!

I will admit, I haven’t actually read this book. I purchased it to give to my parents as a birth announcement for their first grandbaby. Their reaction was priceless!! I recommend using it for the same reason. And I’m sure it’s a good book too.

Love these stories. I am collecting these to read to my Grandkids as I did for my kids!

My 29 year old son grew up with little critter books and now my grandchildren are! Wonderful to start helping your child learn to read at home. Funny and relevant for small children and their adventures growing up!

I've been buying the Italy page-a-day calendars for several years. In the past, the calendar was smaller and the pages were glued together at the top. Very much the standard page-a-day desk format. This year they significantly enlarged the pages and presented it in an acrylic stand. I'm not a huge fan of this as it takes up a lot of space on my work desk. The pages are double sided (ie Monday, Jan 8th on one side and Tuesday, December 25th on the other side). Since I use the calendar pages for SoulCollage©, the double-sided pages means having to choose between the two images. Also, having to remember to flip the pages...kind of annoying. The previous format had a small map of Italy that would indicate the location of where the photo was taken. This was a fun feature. The photos are amazing and beautiful, which is the main reason why I love this calendar. I'm just not a huge fan of the new format. Not sure I'll purchase next year if it this is format is going to be the standard.

I used to love the Workman Publishing Page-A-Day desktop box calendars; especially of Italy. They had great photography, and an informative little map of Italy to show you what area the photo came from. It was great to look at and educational. Now, probably because that was too difficult to produce and maintain ... they have gone to a new format. The photography is still nice, but the little educational bonuses are gone, and quite frankly this big plastic desktop contraption holds loose leaf pages that you flip around after the midway point of the year. Each day is a special little hassle of removing the front image and placing it in the back without blunting the corners or the satisfaction of reducing the page count throughout the year. What used to be a small, tidy little desktop calendar is now an oversized plastic hassle on your desktop. Too big, too clunky and no charm. Sorry ... I won't keep ordering these or giving them as gifts anymore.

This daily gallery calendar has exquisite pictures. It's the next best thing to being there. The pages are of exellent quality and I use them to make homemade gretting cards. All of the Workman Publishing Page-a-Day Gallery calendars are beautiful. I have never bee dissappointed. Please note, the Gallery calendars are substantially larger 6x7" and more vibrant than the regular page a day. The handy plastic stand makes it easy to display on desk or counter. It's also a great conversation peice. My step-daughter and I get the same one each year so we can compare notes.

It's an OK calendar. They took away the map showing where the picture is from. Also the pages are two-sided so you have to save and ''re-use" every page. The pictures are bigger but the supporting information is less. The plastic frame is fragile. It arrived broken but was still functional. I would have preferred the old format that worked so well.

The photographs are lovely and highlight Italy beautifully.

The pages are bigger than I expected and the quality of the pictures is amazing! Once you're half way through the year, you flipped it over and keep going so there is no waste (dates/pics printing on both sides). We are putting little check marks on the corner on the places we want to visit. This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Will get another country for a friend.

Like the photos and all, BUT it this is simply not the "tear off and toss" day calendar. With this day calendar, the pages are double sided are used for days later on in the year. This was a bit confusing for me at first. Not used to such.

I can't wait to start using it in 2018. Beautiful photos. I have had Page-A-Day calendars in the past. Loved them all
