About the Author

Dr. Debra L. Nelson is the CBA Associates Professor of Business Administration and Professor of Management at Oklahoma State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she was the recipient of the R. D. Irwin Dissertation Fellowship Award. Dr. Nelson is the author of over 70 journal articles focusing on organizational stress management, gender differences at work, and positive organizational behavior. Dr. Nelson's research has been published in the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT JOURNAL, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, MIS QUARTERLY, ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS, JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, and other journals. In addition, she is coauthor/coeditor of several books, including POSITIVE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR (Sage, 2007); UNDERSTANDING ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR (South-Western, 2008); GENDER, WORK STRESS, AND HEALTH (APA, 2002); ADVANCING WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT (Blackwell, 2002); and PREVENTIVE STRESS MANAGEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONS (APA, 1997). Dr. Nelson has also served as a consultant to several organizations including AT&T, American Fidelity Assurance, Sonic, State Farm Insurance Companies, and Southwestern Bell. She has presented leadership and preventive stress management seminars in a host of organizations, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Conoco, and Oklahoma Gas and Electric. Dr. Nelson also serves on the editorial review boards of the JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, LEADERSHIP, and the JOURNAL OF LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATION STUDIES.

Textbook for my Org Business graduate class. Relatively easy to understand, formatted well. Enjoyed the Real World boxes. Not a book I would have read if it wasn't required for class, but not the worst textbook I've had.

This is a great general MBA management book. I rented it from Amazon for a fraction of the price.

I thought this book was great. I have read a couple reviews by officianado's who say that the authors are using old references. To this I say garbage! There have been so many changes in how business has been done in the last 4 years of financial turmoil that I felt all the reference material was great. As a matter of fact, I copied the pages out of the back of the book with all the references so I could circle the article names and do research on the material used. I found the references helpful and augmented my learning process. I look at what I knew 8 weeks ago and what I have learned and would say Thank You to Nelson and Quick for their diligence in writing a good book.

Poorly written, factually inaccurate, repetitive, full of typosThis was a horrible book for the 500 level class it was assigned for.

Student will get alot of information from this book ranging from organizational behavior in the work place to stress management. My book did arrive on time and in excellent condition.

Excellent quality and on time

You have to decipher typos and grammatical errors on basically every page. I'm pretty spell checking this book on Microsoft Word could have helped substantially. I expected more from a book being used in a 500 level course.

This was really insightful without being too long! I love the practical ideas shared and the strait forward explanation of duties.

As a church deacon I find this book to be an important tool. It clearly spells out purpose and calling of the deacon. All who take on the role of a deacon should have this book as a road map to be the caring arm of the Church.

The Rev. Dr. Johnson writes with theological and practical clarity and from the experience of training officers. I've always appreciated his fine work.

This is the biggest little book I have ever read! As someone new to being a church leader, I find the writing style very welcoming, informative, thought-provoking, and easy to understand. Because this volume is so slim, it easily fits in my bag for quick reference. Highly recommended.

We got this book when we were brand new Presbyterian Deacons and found it very worthwhile. Lots of info, all the Book of Order, Ordination info too. Recommend it for any Deacon, new or returning. Came quickly, packed well too.

We purchased this book to assist with training our deacons. It is a helpful and well laid out piece that will be used as a reference in the months to come.
