Great place to start if you're facing a 'junk debt buyer' lawsuit.Not nearly all inclusive, but if you wanted that, I suppose you'd go to law school.I found it very helpful as a framework from which I could search for more information- much of it online.It also made it easier to have intelligent conversations with lawyers about my predicament. When I was initially served, I quickly discovered there were not a lot of lawyers who were willing to deal with debtors, especially on debts of a relatively small amount.This book, paired with a good online search engine, gave me the basics on moving thru the wonderful world of defending myself in civil court (on several occasions).A few things I learned:1. Junk debt buying/selling is a huge industry, and there are numerous opinions/commentaries out there on the fundamental fraudulent nature of this business. But, there seems to be no real action against it, because all the 'money' is on the creditor side.2. JDB (junk debt buyer) claims at this level seem to be completely dependent on the judge. Hope you get a 'debtor-friendly' judge, otherwise all the arguments Ms. Munoz covers in the book are right out the window.3. Being sued by an 'assignee' (i.e. JBD), is completely different than getting sued by the primary creditor (i.e. issuing bank). If it's the primary suing you, 'beating it' is not at all likely.4. This legal arena is madness. Nothing makes sense. It's not "People's Court" or even small claims court between two people pro se, where a simple question has a simple answer.It's like the movie "The Paper Chase" (the original), where the Harvard students are talking about Kingsfield's 'contract law' class, and how impossible it is. That's the sort of thing I found with this legal arena. Nothing is simple, nothing makes sense. A simple questions like; how can you sue someone for 'breach of contract', and not attach or have possession of 'the contract'? Pretty simple question, right? Wrong- and the book (thru no fault of its own, again it would take a law textbook to cover everything) is pretty short on giving the reader a 'heads up' on little legal foibles like that.It's too bad our congressmen don't stand up for the people against JDB's and pass some common-sense protections but, like I said, it appears to be a cottage industry for a lot of players, and money talks.Good luck.

I read and thoroughly understood each point the author was making.When one is sued, or is under the threat of a lawsuit the most normal reaction is panic.If one has the funds they may hire a consumer attorney to handle things for themselves, but more often or notthey head for the computer to research and put in hoursof study to see how they should handle things for themselves.What the author has provided here is the basic understanding of what the terms are and their definitions that one needs to know to handle things for themselves, and examples of what wasdone by herself that can be a guide line of what was expected for her case, that will be a great tool/template of sorts for the novice pro se to study.I give this book a 5 star rating.

This book is written by a lay person who defended herself in court and won. It is not for everyone because she had toput her life on hold in order to learn all about the court process but she did and she won. She supplied actual documentsand detailed descriptions of all the legal terminology and how she responded, also in detail. Very well written, easy to understandand is a whole course in legal defense in simple language, very helpful if someone wants to defend themselves pro se.

I bought this book to find some help defending a lawsuit filed against me by a Junk Debt Buyer. Much of the information it contains can be found online for free, something I discovered after spending $9.99 for it. The worst part though is that the author teases you throughout the book with a 120 page Appendix that you must request via e-mail and she will send it to you immediatly. The Appendix is the meat of the book becuse it contains all the court documents from the case so you can see how it works since you are obviously not a lawyer and are trying to file Pro Se. I sent the e-mail and the address is bogus, it came back as undeliverable, twice. Then I looked around and found her on Facebook and sent a message there...nothing. I feel ripped off and would like the author to send me the Appendix or I will be looking for a refund. If the remainder of the book shows up it might actually be helpful, otherwise don't waste your money.

this is a book purchased for a health care course. It does a really good job explaining the ins and outs of health care finance and the practice questions at the end of each chapter really reinforce the material.

The book itself was perfectly fine, it was required for one of my classes. It was in good condition. As far as the context within the book, it was very straight forward and extremely dry. After the 5/6 chapter I found myself having to remind myself to focus. Learned a lot though.

I purchased a used textbook listed as being in “good” condition. What I received was a book in well-worn, fair condition. The outside is dirty and repaired with tape and the inside binding is cracked in several places with the stitching exposed. Not a good value for the money. Disappointed.

My book is really gross. There are boogers and hairs on the pages and I feel like I should constantly be washing my hands during and after I use it. I understand it’s a rental and that’s what I’m paying for, but I just can’t help being grossed out.

So easy to use and great for practicing basic facts. Each card has the answer on the back so if you're quizzing a child, you don't have to continually flip the card around. They are nice and large and made of good, heavy duty material. They are double sided (so that you don't have a gazillion cards). A great way I've found to use these cards is to divide them into stacks of 10 (after shuffling) and time how fast the child can do each stack. The girl I tutor loves this game and it makes her want to actually do it! The cards go from 0's to 12's

I like these flash cards because of how the white side is the easier side and the red side is harder. What I don't like about these cards is about 5 cards have the same problem on both sides revealing the answer.

These flash cards have one major flaw: a handful of the cards have the related problem on the back of the same card. So, if you are looking at the 10x3 card, 3x10 is on the back. The answer to the problem on the back is printed on the front. So on the 10x3 card, the answer 3x10=30 is printed right there. My daughter noticed this immediately.

I like this brand of math flash cards for my kids. We’ve bought addition, subtraction, and now the multiplication cards. They are sturdy and hold up to repeated use yet super affordable. They are significantly nicer quality than the ones in dollar bins at Target, but still only a few dollars more. Highly recommend!

There are so many wonderful moments in this book - the feeling of being surrounded by massive power everywhere, the stories of the fishermen in New Zealand, and the surmounting of life threatening obstacles. Reading the Duff's description of Fiordland National Park took me back to this wonderful place as few could. But most of all, Duff presents an epic human journey full of wonder and the power of man. Yet at the same time, Duff sees the sea and knows how small man really is.There is also a passage or two where Duff speaks about the meaning of his life - how he wants to look back and say that he took advantage of his short time on earth. After reading Southern Exposure, there is no doubt he did.On the down side, the book's maps could be better. The rudimentary maps in the book have several instances where Duff capsizes but the reader never learns about these instances save for one. I want to know! How did he get back in the boat!? Was he on the ocean?! Also, vast parts of the journey are left off and I want to know more. Like what happened in Christchurch? Tell me more about Fiordland.

Loved this book, I wish Chris had made many more trips of this type (and the Ireland circumnavigation) and written books on all of them. I lived it while reading it, vicariously of course, but still so enjoyable. Well written, Chris's personality and likability just add to the story that is so well told.

This is the second Chris Duff book I've read. Can't put it down. Chris makes you feel like you're right there with him in his kayak.Great read.

breath taking adventure!

By Bill Marsano. Chris Duff's photos, which are bundled together and whacked a little perfunctorily into the middle of this book, limp under the heading of 'snaps.' Duff belongs to the old school of kayakin' shutterbugs: compose any old how, so long as the bow of the boat is in the frame; shoot in any old light; and shoot, sometimes, any old subject. There's a darn nice snap of a Hooker seal here but what I really wanted was more pix of the damage (and later repairs) to his boat from the surf landing that nearly killed him. I'm just saying. (And the maps are even worse--clear, but seldom helpful.)Never mind: This is a book of writing. Duff seems to have had no specific reason to try a 1700-mile circumnavigation of New Zealand's South Island (it's not even a first) but he is no virgin. He's looped the British Isles and then Ireland; he's paddled 8000 miles along the east coast of Canada and the U.S.; even now he may be paddling round Iceland.He, too, gets into a little gauzy mysticism about the Eternal Why and his place in the universe, but most of the time he's a little too busy for that stuff. South Island's coast is a place that goes from bad to worse, and it's instructive to listen in as Duff relates his tactics and strategies for dealing with bad weather and dangerous, even life-threatening situations: You can learn from this stuff as well as be staggered by it. And just for lagniappe there are those occasional moments of perfect weather and following seas that surf him along in solitary joy. These usually come along just after the notoriously perverse Tasman Sea has, as they say south of here, "prit-near" beaten him to a pulp.A particular pleasure of this book is the human aspect. Despite the solitary aspect of his circumnavigations, Duff is a sociable man who enjoys and appreciates the people he meets--and appears to bring out the best in them. Add that to the fact that Kiwis are notably kind and generous anyway and you are not surprised that Duff makes friends everywhere he goes and they bend over backwards to help him in every way they can.Judging from the indications in the text, it's clear that Duff prepared extremely well for this voyage, and readers should pay close attention as they go along, because--probably because this stuff is bred into his bones by now--Duff spends very little time discussing equipment at the end. In fact, he's done with the subject in a single page.There's one incident in this book that commands my admiration and will yours. I don't want to give anything away but at one point Duff receives some help of a rather expensive kind, and his response is to pull out his credit card. "No worries, mate," he's told, officialdom is budgeted for that. All very well, but Duff insists on paying his own way. He is well aware of the fact that a well-behaved guest doesn't batten on his hosts.--Bill Marsano is an award-winning editor and writer whose own kayaking voyages fill only pages, not books.

A couple of years ago I saw Chris Duff speak at Canoecopia - a worldwide paddling expo held in Madison WI. One of his talks was about his solo circumnavigation of New Zealand's south island - the same topic as this book.I, and I think the rest of the audience, was mesmerized as he told his tale. Even though he probably has talked about his trip many times it felt as if he was reliving it for the first time. His ecitement was contagious. The audience could almost feel the ocean swells and smell the salty air.Chris Duff is as good of a writer as he is a public speaker. He vividly describes the scenery of his voyage, the people he encounters and his own personal thoughts. While, his adventures are WAY beyond my personal abilities I could actually feel what it would be like in his shoes (or in this case fast drying sandals) due to his excellent writing ability.

Unfortunately, I do not quite share the enthusiasm expressed by the other reviewers. Although Duff is an excellent descriptive writer, the numerous descriptions and philosophical musings in this book tend to go on and on needlessly; I do not need to read three pages about what it was like to find two apples in the ocean and eat them, or read description after description of the joys and epiphanies one experiences while paddling in a remote area. A little of that goes a long way.I guess the upshot is that I was looking for an exciting adventure story, and what I got was perhaps the most thorough description of the New Zealand South Island's coastline, coastal waters, and weather patterns ever written. If you are looking for an "Into Thin Air"-type battle against the odds, keep looking. Although the journey required considerable paddling skills and Duff faced a few close calls, overall the book records little actual adversity aside from large waves and days of waiting out storms -- often in homes of hospitable New Zealanders rather than on his own.I also agree with other reviewers that the photos are mediocre and certainly are not "stunning," as the back of the book claims.

The Turkeybird Speaks(My 3 year old son's POV): "This book is one of those that I just can't put down. They have one you can print off on the website for the book and it is incredible! You have to try it out! Of course we included band-aids, just like squirrel, because they are my favorite thing to stick to my body (even if I don't have a 'good' reason for it, as my mom would say)!"This is a definite must read with any guy or girl you know! A favorite in our preschool classroom that gets lots of giggles and a few huhs? (They are 4 and 5 year olds.) The kids can help me read as the pictures are repeated and the book has a good message of trying new things.

We really liked the original 'Scaredy Squirrel' but not sure how we feel about this one. Same paranoid squirrel and same format...lots of planning...but that might be the problem. There isn't enough story or substance in the book. Lots and lots of pictures and words on the pictures deatiling his plan, if that makes sense. I would have liked to have seen more of a storyline. It is a lot of explaining what he is doing and why in my own words instead of the author doing that in the story. My daughter still loves it b/c it is Scaredy Squirrel, but I don't enjoy reading it like I do the original.

We just love these books. Have most of them. Any kids books that the parents love to read is a bonus. Thanks for writing such fun and unique books.

My five year old adores the Scaredy Squirrel books. I was pleased to see this one at a good price for my Kindle, so we can have a few digital books for bedtime when we travel.

My eight-year-old grandson, who actually reads on a fairly high level, loves the Scaredy Squirrel series. It addresses well the vulnerable feelings a child has in new situations and opens up the lines of communication between child and adult. These books also contain a fair amount of gentle humor (that Scaredy Squirrel!) and are easy for an eight-year-old to read. He loves them and that's good enough for me!

My daughter reads the Scaredy Squirrel books at school, so this little short was a fun watch for us!

My 14-month-old LOVES this book. I felt nervous giving him a book with flaps because he tends to just tear them, BUT this book has VERY STURDY lift-up-flaps. He "reads" it daily and the book still shows very little sign of wear and tear. That is saying a lot! :) The quality is fantastic and I intend to purchase additional copies to give as gifts for expecting mothers and birthday parties.

I have a daughter with ASD and a speech delay, and we love these books. They are engaging and not simple--actual sentences on each page, not like baby board books.

This book is awesome! The quality is great...thick flaps that don't tear easily, and the pictures are vibrant, beautiful illustrations, and nice chunky pages for little hands. My 18 MO loves it and so do his 2 and 5 yo cousins.

I love that this book is different from most peek-a-flap books. That is under the flap is a tidbit or fact about farms and farm animals, not for standard "cow sausage moo."Our granddaughter loves the bright colors in the drawings.

Her reactions are among the numerous listed in Chapter 2; Vaccines are Safe and Effective and Other Lies. Pages 26-28:The US National Library of Medicine catalogues adverse reactions to hundreds of diseases and disorders including: Acute Flacid Paralysis;...ADD;...; Systemic Seizures;...; Vaccine-Related Retroviruses.Wilcox has especially written this text for his children in order to help them not make the same mistakes our generation has made. Started well ... no rhythm very scattered near the end. Author is a interesting person but he and his writing seems schizophrenic. It’s basically him sharing his random thoughts with us the reader, but there is no conclusion no real insight just a random stream of consciousness. I was hoping for more.

This book is worth the price if you are fascinated by Terence McKenna as the author, a devotee, has an extensive knowledge of him. The first section focuses on Terence and his insights. Otherwise a self indulgent account of a relapsing pathetic drug addict, impossible for me to finish. If you want to be inside the muddled self centered mind of a person struggling with addiction you might rate it higher than me.

Overall, the book was ok. The author does a great job writing about Mckenna; those were the parts of the book that I liked: in particular, chapters 1 & 2. I stopped reading after the section on DMT... that part of the book seemed so painfully irrelevant, so scattered, and the next chapter seemed to be going right along in the same direction... I just had to put it down. Sorry, Tao.

Tao Lin's unique language, which synthesized his experiences with Terence McKenna, psychedelics, and Kathleen Harrison, wormed its way into my heart, soul, and actual dreams at night. I learned a lot of new things that I can't quite put into words.

I selected this book to read during 26 hours of travel. Parts were interesting and engaging, but the excitement was not sustainable

Enjoyed a lot. Felt good about the psychedelic stuff. If you've listened to a lot of Mckenna some parts feel familiar but it's fun to read Tao extrapolating from that and compare with ideas/events from his own life, like he also does with Weston A. Price and Riane Eisler. I like how he doesn't completely subscribe to any one view of the modern world. He seems to simultaneously be able to view a lot of parts of it as bleak and other parts as exciting and even hopeful. I think he took Terence a little too seriously about the 'I don't believe anything' thing. He said that a lot but it still feels, to me at least, like he strongly leaned towards Novelty Theory being true, and was also firmly rooted to the need for an Archaic Revival. He often seemed to me like a 'True Believer,' but one who was savvy enough to know how skeptical people were of both experts and evangelicals and so said things like that he only had 'models' (but I think it's only the top level stuff--things that seemed obvious to him, like that psychedelics would have to become important for a positive future outcome for humanity --that I think he firmly held to. A lot his ideas he did probably, it seems, view as expendable) But since I kind of believe that stuff it didn't really bother me.The book also encouraged me, through reading about Tao's experience with and gratefulness towards it, to begin again to use cannabis with a new attitude of viewing it as it's own intentional helper. I like this new view and how it's making me feel. I wanted to see some more things about the relationship between psychedelics and spirituality. Terence said different things. Like he sometimes said they were obviously intertwined, maybe earlier in his career i'm guessing, and then other times said stuff like he wasn't sure they had much to do with each other. I wanted (at some point before reading the book, imagining what the book was going to be about) to hear about Tao's view on the matter, but maybe it wasn't considered to be interesting or relevant or maybe it was not considered at all. The back of the book said stuff about 'what happens after death?' but that wasn't really talked about except for repeating without not a lot of examination Terence's 'death is a release into the the imagination.' Realizing now that I'd been assuming that a lot of people reading the book would be familiar with Terence's ideas but I overestimated the overlap of people who are interested in him and Tao because of his (Mckenna's) prevalence on Tao's online, (mainly Twitter it seems) presence, and that maybe to a lot of people these are going to be 100% new ideas which will, due to their newness, have a large effect on them, which seems exciting (just to have a lot of people discussing, or maybe just thinking about, interesting ideas, even ones that are maybe smirked at by certain different kinds of people).One of my favorite parts of the book was in the epilogue when Tao feels depressed and poignantly assures himself, despite the depressive thing of it seeming permanent, that there would come times that he would feel better. I view 'Trip,' or at least a lot, of it as kind of a culmination of the last months or maybe years of Tao's online presence, having followed probably all of it. I view the new, before-unseen parts, like his detailed trip reports and a lot of the Kathleen Harrison stuff as a sort of 'bonus.' I intuit that there are more things I vaguely feel like I can convey about my experience of reading 'Trip,' but am self-conscious about how long this review is for an Amazon comments section, and am so going to stop typing after the next sentence. I greatly appreciate everything Tao Lin writes makes me feel more interested in art and less alone in the world, and I feel massively grateful for him having communicated his Mckenna-influenced worldview and sharing his often-convincing view of and beliefs about both modern and general living.

Lin is hyper-detailed, seemingly socially awkward, brilliant, acute, exploratory, brave and curious. While at times he seems to go into too much detail about mundane ongoings, I'm thinking that's the point. He describes recordings down to the second, pays acute attention to everyone he interacts with, and places it humorously and starkly in context. "Trip" is beautiful, made me feel nervous, anxious, excited, sad, giddy and curious- I respect Lin and see quite a bit of myself in him.

While the book lacks the quiet desperation that colors Tao’s earlier work, it’s made up for in an ever-researching, optimistic ‘trip’ towards recovery.

A little predictable at times as you are told "something didn't look right" and you knew there would be something that wasn't right and that Black Jack Geary would figure it out and win, but this is fun sci-fi - not Old English Literature - so it accomplishes its goal.My biggest complaint about this book is the early exposition which is to bring you up to speed if you haven't read the first book in the series (Dauntless) or if you haven't read it in a while I guess. That is tedious and it pops up from time to time in the book. But I suppose that is one of the challenges to writing a series.I'm definitely pre-ordering Courageous (Book 3) and Valiant when possible. Highly recommended if you like space operas.

I've read the whole series now. That should tell you how much I liked the story. After a couple of books you kind of figure out how things are going to develop so I wouldn't say it was full of surprises but it wasn't predictable either.Different people would see the story in different ways but to me it was the consideration of the realities of space that kept me connected. Few people realize how large space actually is. Sci-Fi had lead us to think of space warfare as happening at visual range and perceivable speeds. It just wouldn't be like that. Even modern air warfare strains this idea. The Enterprise would never be nose to nose with a Romulan vessel and shots would be fire from such distances that you might not even see if you hit or missed for a long time.Black Jack Geary has to deal with the truth of relativity and distances measured in light travel time. Even communication is complicated when there are minutes or even hours of transit time for messages.If you throw out sub-space the plot thickens and that is what kept me coming back. Not to mention the subterfuge and intrigue.

FEARLESS is a decent follow up to the original LOST FLEET book DAUNTLESS. The premise of the Lost Fleet saga is the Alliance's starfleet caught far behind enemy lines and only Captain John "Black Jack" Geary (frozen for a century in an escape pod) can get them back home. It's an entertaining space opera with excellent space battles and a somewhat repetitive beat of Jack angsting over the fact everyone he knows his dead while he's been made a legend by the Alliance's propaganda machine.I liked this book a little bit more than Dauntless with Jack rescuing a infamous military maverick from a prison camp, Captain Falco, who threatens to usurp his command over the fleet. This wouldn't be a problem if not for the fact Falco is incompetent, dangerously charismatic, and possibly insane after twenty-years of imprisonment in a labor camp. Morale is also dangerously low in the fleet and John has decided to do a daring raid on the enemy's largest shipyards while the rest of their fleet is (ironically) chasing them.I was hoping for a lengthier conflict between Captain Falco and Captain Geary for control of the fleet. I really enjoyed the battle between Captain Adama and Admiral Cain in Battlestar Galactica's reboot. This is much shorter with the two characters only sharing a short number of encounters before things come to a head.Fearless is a solid piece of military science fiction that I found quite entertaining. There's a few minor developments character wise but the focus in this series is squarely on the tactics in space, the chain of command, and other Naval details which military enthusiasts will enjoy. I'm not a big fan of one character who gets promoted to love-interest in this book but she's also the only one not in Geary's chain of command so I suppose that was inevitable.9/10

I continue to be both fascinated and engrossed in Jack Campbell's The Lost Fleet series. The second book, like the first, gives readers a character that is memorable and unique - Captain John 'Black Jack' Geary is a legend and an ordinary man who must find a way to balance both aspects, as well as the expectations of the Fleet he commands. As readers know, John Geary was in hibernation for a century before been found by the Alliance Task force. In the time he slept, the Alliance has been at war with Syndicate for nigh on a hundred years and in that time he has become a legend amongst the Alliance naval forces. Now, finding himself in charge of an entire fleet, he finds to his annoyance that people frequently quote things he said 100 years ago - usually out of context - and expect him to go full thrust against the Syndics. Unfortunately, he is not the sort of Captain that throws away ships or crew with great disregard. His decisions are purposeful, designed to balance good strategy and tactics with minimal loss. He is a desciplined man, from a long gone age who uses his knowledge - garnered from long gone, experienced military men and women of the Alliance Fleet - to protect his Fleet. However, he finds that military disciline has fallen by the way side and many of his more junior Captains are glory hunters who risk their ships and crew with their constant desire to eliminate the Syndics.Fearless continues the struggle Captain John Geary has, as he tries to demonstrate to his Captains a different way of thinking that will ensure as many of his ships and personnel make it back to Alliance Space. He also battles against the legend of 'Black Jack' Geary that could lead him to take the easy route - domination, power and control - through taking advantage of that legendary status. He would rather people in the fleet saw him as the very ordinary Captain John Geary, not as 'Black Jack'. There is some brilliant battle action; a discovery about the hypernet gate system that has the potential to be devastating; Geary has to match wits with a liberated Alliance Captain who has the potential to undermine his role as Captain of the Fleet and mutiny by some of his more recalcitrant Captains. A thoroughly enjoyable read that is as much character driven as it is tense battle action. I highly recommend this series for its attention to detail, complex chracters, fantastic plot, setting, and solid hard science.
