I'm a board-certified Internal Medicine M.D. with a large patient practice in Los Angeles. I downloaded the Kindle edition of financial guru Jean Chatzky's and wellness expert Dr. Michael Roizen's new book "Age-Proof" last evening. It was so chock-full of sage advice that I stayed up into the wee hours reading it all the way through.After 25+ years of medical practice I'm rather skeptical of and not easily impressed by the litany of books offering what I consider to be "fad" advice for healthy living. Most are either inaccurate, hyperbolic, based on junk-science or just plain boring. "Age-Proof", in my professional opinion, is a singular exception. My initial (inarticulate) gut reactions as I read Jean and Dr. Mike's expert health and wealth advice were "Wow." "Terrific." "Finally." "It's about time."In a nutshell, "Age-Proof" offers clear, simple, actionable, scientifically legitimate advice about staying healthy and financially solvent as the decades pile up. And the key messages are delivered in a caring, funny and non-threatening format for the oft-scary interconnected topics of health and wealth. As a doc striving daily to impart both healthy living and practical life advice to my aging patient population (i.e. anyone over 40), "Age-Proof" will very likely become a must-read recommendation for my patients.Thanks so much to Jean and Dr. Mike for sharing your wisdom and mentoring with the world.

Not too bad overall. However, if you want to do better, I'd go with "Younger Next Year (& turn back your biological clock)", By Cris Crowley & Henry Lodge MD for the health and longevity part.. (You won't be willing to do all the stuff listed in either book - neither am I - but this book is still more readable and I think a bit better plan. For the financial side of the equation, go instead to the most recent update of Andrew Tobias' "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need".

There's lots of good advice in this book. Some or much of the financial and health recommendations you're probably already doing or want to do.After reading through this book, I think it may become a reference guide for me over the next several years. On the other hand, much of the advice would probably be better accessing through a website, an online course, and some personal coaching.There's so much that we need to be doing to improve our financial and health conditions, but there's only so much time in the day. This book can be helpful, but really it's only a guide.By the way, when they talk about budgeting your money, don't try using the old pen and paper method. Simply use the service, YouNeedABudget.com. It's very affordable, and I guarantee that if you're not living beyond your means, then YNAB will help you solve your budgeting problems.

This is an excellent resource on how to save...for retirement, as well as how to live well now so one can save for retirement as well as being healthy through out life. The title is spot on..."Age Proof: Living Longer w/o running out of money or breaking a hip." For those who aren't aware when one breaks a hip in their advanced years, if they have not taken care of themselves through out their lives, then healing is almost non-existent.

The money stuff I have covered (but I am guessing most people don't). It's the health stuff I struggle with as I get older. This book has helped me create new habits that have me becoming healthier. (Lost 8 pounds since I bought the book. I can jog two miles now without worrying about a heart attack. That kind of stuff.)Great book. Well written.

I like the book and the inforamation it contains. However, it is a struggle to remain interested and finish reading the whole book.

what a huge help with interpretation. My kid attends a fine arts school and we're working on monologues for Auditions. It's so important to know what was really happening before and after the specific verse to really play it out. The sidebar interpretation helps so much with this aspect. This is a Shakespearean Comedy of Manners from before the genre was even really a fully developed thing, featuring love affairs, a revenge plot, some humorous incompetence, a faked death, and much more. I'm not a big comedy fan, but this is certainly a good example of the genre at the time from which it came, and I actually quite enjoyed it. When it comes to the works of Shakespeare as a whole, I would say that this is a less memorable example, but definitely has some positives going for it as well. For one, it's far less well-known than many of his more famous works, so it doesn't feel familiar as you read it. The characters and plot also tend to grow on you, even as the language isn't quite so memorable, and the plotting and mistaken identities aspects are always good plot points, whether you're speaking of today or centuries ago. As to the edition itself, I found it to be greatly helpful in understanding the action in the play. It has a layout which places each page of the play opposite a page of notes, definitions, explanations, and other things needed to understand that page more thoroughly. While I didn't always need it, I was certainly glad to have it whenever I ran into a turn of language that was unfamiliar, and I definitely appreciated the scene-by-scene summaries. Really, if you want to or need to read Shakespeare, an edition such as this is really the way to go, especially until you get more accustomed to it.

Left and right format is great, better than parsing footnotes, but find another version. Whoever was hired to "translate" from Elizabethan English for these likely doesn't know the Virgin Queen from Elizabeth Bennet. The right page modern language translation usually adds nothing, in many cases is an exact copy, but in a significant number of instances completely misses the meaning of the words and/or line. I suspect that the publisher hired an English major from a minor college, paid them peanuts, and got what they paid for: a lazy, careless translation. In Modern English, "these suck".

The Arden (individual) Shakespeares are the most comprehensive texts available for public consumption. The introduction gives a history of the performance of the play (with photos), the sources used, describes differences between the versions (quarto vs folio), and so much more. My favorite part is that each page has explanations/translations for unfamiliar and archaic terms in the play (I.e. you don’t have to go to the back of the book for an explanation of what “zounds” means). That said, this isn’t my favorite play by Shakespeare, but that is not the book’s fault... I like measure for measure better.

it helps tremendously having notes and context side by aide to the text. there's also a lengthy introduction about the story, language and Bard himself.If you're a beginner you will still have to put a lot of effort in, and you will likely need other resources as well, but this is an excellent starting text

This is a comment about my (purchased) paperback copy of The New Cambridge Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." On the last page it says "Made in the U.S.A, Lexington, KY, 18 April 2018." The Amazon warehouse that usually ships my orders is in Lexington. Did this warehouse actually print this book to order (it arrived April 20), under permission from the Cambridge University Press? I wonder because the printing of the text does not appear to be of the highest quality, as if the press or the printer was low on ink. The pages are not numbered. The still images printed in the introduction are grainy, as if they have been blown up too large.If you are interested in this particular NCS edition, I don't recommend buying it here (at least not for the price I paid, $11.95). It simply has the look of a facsimile.

I'm the parent of a 12 year old girl, and we watched the Kenneth Branagh version of Much Ado, and since my daughter is particularly fond of the Korean form of Manga (called Manwah, I think), we got several Manga versions of Shakespeare's plays. They use Shakespeare's language (not all of it), and are a good "gateway" to reading the plays themselves. The visual style is dramatic and impassioned, which fits well with the emotions for teens. The images remind me of "story board" images used to plan the visual shots for a movie -- therefore, I would say that the images add to the intelligence and thought put into the reading of the play.

There are few films as joyous as Much Ado About Nothing. Much of this joy comes from the beautiful visual shooting of this film and the Italian Villa and estate where the entire story was shot on location. Follow the process with the director himself, by reading his book and you will enriched by the tender loving care that went into creating this masterpiece.

About the Author

Walter Lord (1917–2002) was an acclaimed and bestselling author of literary nonfiction best known for his gripping and meticulously researched accounts of watershed historical events. Born in Baltimore, Lord went to work for the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. After the war’s end, Lord joined a New York advertising firm, and began writing nonfiction in his spare time. His first book was The Fremantle Diary (1954), a volume of Civil War diaries that became a surprising success. But it was Lord’s next book, A Night to Remember (1955), that made him famous. The bestseller caused a new flurry of interest in the Titanic and inspired the 1958 film of the same name. Lord went on to use the book’s interview-heavy format as a template for most of his following works, which included detailed reconstructions of the Pearl Harbor attack in Day of Infamy (1957), the battle of Midway in Incredible Victory (1967), and the integration of the University of Mississippi in The Past That Would Not Die (1965). This is going to be a short review. If you want to know how harrowing it was for the French, British and Belgian forces who made the “miracle” possible, this is a great work. Unlike the movie Chris Nolan attempted to make, this is the true story of heroism, girt and cooperation. Many times, through history, the French Army hasn’t been shown in, shall we say, a great light. During the encirclement, if it weren’t for their steadfastness in holding the outer perimeter defenses as the BEF withdrew to the beaches, perhaps only half of those trapped would have been rescued.One of the most fascinating portions of the story is the utter lack of sleep of those who were holding off the Germans and those who were in charge of the evacuation. I don’t ever remember reading any story were those involved lived on as little sleep as the men and women who manned the lines.Another item I wasn’t familiar with was the mutinous acts that occurred in the navy. The crew of three destroyers refused to return to Dunkirk. Their nerves were frayed and the lack of sleep was too much to deal with. Instead of being courts martialed, the Admiralty found other men to man the ships and send them back one more time. In a normal scenario, one would call them cowards. After reading this account and the harrowing trips across the channel, one can empathize with their plight.Unlike the move this is a five star work!

I knew what happened at Dunkirk, but I did not know the details. With the release of the movie “Dunkirk,” I decided to read more about it before watching the movie. I selected “The Miracle of Dunkirk: The True Story of Operation Dynamo” by Walter Lord since it was the book that came most highly recommended by reviewers.Initially, “The Miracle of Dunkirk” was a bit confusing. As an American, some of the military terms, acronyms, and colloquial British words and phrases had me confused. Walter Lord was also able to transfer the utter confusion and chaos of the British military and political leaders about Dunkirk to his readers. After a few chapters, my confusion about what was happening turned into organized chaos and the events at Dunkirk became clearer.The fact that 338,000 British and French troops were rescued is a “miracle”. The details that Walter Lord gives puts the readers in the midst of the chaos. There were heroes. There were cowards. The fog of war caused numerous friendly fire casualty. The execution of British POWs by the Nazis did not surprise me. I was, however, surprised at the recounting of British officers shooting and killing their own men who deserted their defensive position.The evacuation of Dunkirk is seen as a British “miracle,” but Walter Lord’s portrayal of the French troops and their commanders gives a good background on their important contribution to the “miracle.” Without the French troops delaying the German advance, the “miracle” would not have happened. The image of all the French troops abandoned on the beaches of Dunkirk as the last rescue ships leave is haunting.I haven’t yet seen the move “Dunkirk,” but I think I will appreciate and better understand what happened more now that I’ve read Walter Lord’s “The Miracle of Dunkirk.”I read the Kindle edition. The maps, diagrams, and photos on the Kindle edition don’t have the best resolution so they're hard to read.

I alternately loved and dreaded this book. Many chapters felt like long interludes between the storyline I sought. Consequently I speed read several long chapters in the middle.His comprehensive reporting of a highly complex story are understandably tedious at times, at least for me.I loved his last chapter which highlighted a number of key lessons and takeaways from Dunkirk. It was, in my limited view, an early turning point that determined the nature of the remaining years of the conflict.The loss of over 100,000 French soldiers, unable to be transported, led to the fall of France, only two weeks later. I often wondered why their resistance was so small. Now I know.The activities at Dunkirk served to galvanize England's resolve to fight. The returning troops were treated like heroes, much to Churchill's dismay. He understood the worst was yet to come, but the rescue of 340,000 soldiers felt more like a victory to the British citizenry. Instead of sapping their resolve it increased it.Churchill's inspirational speech about fighting in the air, on the beach, at home etc. was the conclusion of his Dunkirk report to parliament. It's interesting how this rescue campaign changed the future of the world. This rescue's legacy can not be overstated. France fell easily, Britain would be next. Then Russia would fall no doubt fall, and the world would be completely different than it is, largely because of Dunkirk.

Going to the supermarket to shop for food has always been the easiest and most convenient option for me. Reading through the cookbook, yes - some things do take time... but it's really not hard or scary... I just needed to be willing. I enjoyed the chapter about different preserving techniques, and the "Pantry" chapter has lovely botanical illustrations if you want to go foraging. Of course, the recipes are amazing (Most of the recipes are accompanied by photographs.) - "Dandelion Honey" will be the first thing I try. I'm also excited about making my own yogurt and trying my hand at pickling. Baby steps right? Overall, this is a beautiful cookbook and I love it... I loved it so much I bought another copy as a gift for a friend.

I am an avid cook and cookbook collector. This cookbook is exquisite, informative and differentiated. The recipes are easy to follow and truly unique. The illustrations are magnificent. I will treasure this cookbook and make certain it is always within easy reach.

I have been trying to do a little more pickling and gardening in and around my house in the City but have been making excuses to why it it not feasible. This book has given me more drive to focus more on my impact as well as give me the tools i need to get more invested in making things myself.
