It's Goosebumps! For Christmas? Okay, so that seemed kind of weird at first, being that Christmas is a time of cheer and good tidings, but I thought this worked pretty well. It seemed to me that this book was a might more grown up than previous goosebumps titles I've read. The characters had a bit more depth and the story was a little scarier than I recall the other books being.Still, this had the original Goosebumps flair, with laugh out loud moments and goofy characters to fill in the tense spots. I think kids of all ages will enjoy this book just as they have done with the rest of the series before it.The frights in this story were original, and I liked that the main character had other drama in her life besides seeing ghosts. I'm sire kids could relate to the issues she brings up.I love these books, and this series will never cease to please, in my opinion.This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher and provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

My kids have enjoyed the Goosebumps books for the last couple of years. They were really excited about the movie. They were extra excited about the book about the movie. Although they watched the movie first, they were not disappointed to receive the book.And yes, the ACTUALLY read the book, after having seen the movie. Because they enjoyed it so much, I would not be shocked should they re-read the book.In fact, they were so excited about all the cameos made by past Goosebumps villains, that they were inspired to read their old books. Now THAT's worth 5 stars!

Bought this book for my nephew on Christmas, he loves goosebumps and didn’t have this one, he finished the book the same night I gave it to him. So I would say he enjoyed the book.

I used to read the Goosebumps books religiously when I was younger. Now that they are on Kindle I am reading them all over again and having a nostalgic experience. Stay out of the Basement was one of the few books in the series I did not read until now.It's about a girl named Margaret Brewer & her younger brother Casey Brewer. Their father is working on a very secret experiment involving plants in the basement. Margaret & Casey start noticing changes in their father physically and in his attitude. They also begin to wonder why is it forbidden to go down to the basement, it's only plants after all? Could their dad be hiding something more sinister? I don't want to ruin the book for anyone so that's all I will say for now.The book wasn't so horrible that I wish I had never purchased it, but compared to other Goosebump books I've read, this one was a little on the weak side. Like other reviewers have mentioned, more thought could have gone into the ending. With that said, if you like the Goosebumps series or are a fan of R.L. Stine, I'm sure you'll like this one as long as you don't go in with very high expectations. It was entertaining enough to read all the way through, but I don't see myself going back and reading it again so soon. Maybe when the mood strikes me in the future.

I can think of no other book on the market that has everything you need to know RIGHT NOW about Fermenting Foods besides Wardeh Harmon's excellent book. I received mine and immediately started reading through the processes and recipes. As I write this, the peppers and tomatoes and onions are days from being ready to harvest, and I am studying Wardeh's lacto-fermented salsa recipes so that I can make the most of what I get from my garden. The book is well-written, expertly edited, and easy to follow. Even if you've never lacto-fermented any foods in your life, you can do it with this book. Great info, nicely organized, and a tremendous starter's guide! I now have two quarts of einkorn sourdough starter ("wild yeast") and we are in love with the Alaska Pancakes (we cook like Dutch Babies in a convection oven...so easy and healthy!) recipe. Well, quite a lot of the recipes, actually. Highly recommend this book for those wanting to know how to ferment foods and don't want to wait to learn. LOL This guide teaches you as you're doing it. Loving my purple sauerkraut, and we're replacing all commercial yeasts with our wild yeast. It's terrific!

Hi - I have been pickling for a few years & have been buying fermented foods for many years (I guess we all do) in any case, this year was the year I started fermenting. To start this process I needed to study, so I bought the The Art of Fermentation: An In-Depth Exploration of Essential Concepts and Processes from Around the World book; I had heard a wonderful interview with him on NPR one day ... maybe that was the spark that ignited the realization that I could ferment too ... his book is fascinating & full of interesting historical information and extremely full but there are no real recipes or actual steps to fermenting ... which, as I've gotten more bold, is helpful.I needed a book that had actual steps & recipes, and that was why I bought this book The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fermenting Foods. I like the step by step recipes. I like the clear observations of what can happen and what to expect. Most recipes do include lacto-fermentation .... and there is a convincing reason earlier in the book ... but if you're not up to all that she does tell you how to do every recipe without the lacto-part; although after reading about lacto-fermentation I do feel it si probably a really good way to go.The Nourishing Traditions book has a very good description of lacto-fermenting, and I have enjoyed her book quite a bit; every food chapter has reasons for making those health choices in the side-pafe of the recipe & it's a very good read ... her recipes are often the longest way of doing things ... I've been making beef stocks for years & years and her recipe is good, but I never take or have the time to roast the bones, I never waste wine in stock and I only have time to cook a stock for 11 hours max and sometimes only 8 I think she was recommending far more than 11 hours ... and many of her recipes are the absolute best & most complicated way of doing things.Since starting to ferment I have made a delicious batch of mead, mostly using Sandor katz's book; it is effervesent & delicious! This weekend I am making a big batch of saurkraut. I have also made wonderful kimchi.Have a good day!

So far, not impressed. I made the Beef Casserole, expecting it to look like the picture or close to it - creamy and delicious. Instead it was just a blob of a mess. The Pineapple chicken was ok. Maybe it's my crock pot, maybe it's me but so far I would not recommend this. I'll try a couple more recipes before I get rid of it.

This review is for the whole series. I'm using these books with students who need vocabulary work. It is helping them across the board. For example, one student, who is working on book A, just finished the first two sections of the book, which contain words about numbers of things (mono/uni = 1, bi/di = 2, tri=3 and so on). Yesterday, she and I looked at her math class work. They're learning about polynomials. Her vocabulary list contains words such as monomial, binomial, trinomial... and she exclaimed, with joy, "I know these! We just learned these! The rest of the class took the whole period with this and still didn't get it and I did." She's lagged in vocabulary for so long, it's a delight to see her surging ahead. I would use the numbered books with students in middle school and needier high school students, and the A and above with average students in high school. More advanced high school students would zoom through the first few and then find material that will help them. Great for general vocab and SAT prep.

I know this book is meant for older kids but, it's so well laid out and easy to understand that my six year old son just completed book 4 and loved it. Now every time he hears a root word, suffix or prefix that he recognized he gets so excited. The lessons are so short and concise that we discuss one lesson at each dinner time. Then he takes the unit review quiz at the end of the week and always aces it not because he is super smart but because the lessons focus on understanding not memorization. If you're interested in improving vocabulary skills, The Classical Roots books are great for any age. I bought books 4-6 and A-E and plan to work with my sons through the whole series.

This curricula is easy to use, designed for students to work independently with little teacher intervention, and it gives students a chance to not only learn vocabulary which they may need to know for college entrance tests, but also it's fun to see where all the words we say emanated (e.g. Latin, Greek, etc.). For students or "wordsmiths" this curricula requires about 15 minutes a day and is a painless way to teach vocabulary roots necessary to decipher unknown words in the future as well as improve your vocabulary.

I LOVE this series! These books have help build an incredible foundation for my son. He started with the first book and is now in the high school level. These books are a wonderful addition to a classical language education.

As an adult, I enjoy these vocabulary books just to keep my mind sharp as I am aging. I particularly like that they have a Latin Roots approach.

My daughter 14, loves to learn new words and this book really covered what I had been looking for, the origin and roots along with synonyms. We don"t need spend a lot of time on vocabulary because the book covers the word descriptions in such a manner that its easier for her to remember.

My oldest daughter loves them and my boys even think they're "not too bad." The kids work on them about 15 minutes a day. They've helped their spelling and knowledge of root words, and root origins.

If you have seen the hardcover edition and like it, and are buying what you think is going to be a paperback edition of that same book, you may be sorely disappointed. First off, notice the specifications do not tell how many pages this edition has, but the hardcover advises there are 160 pages in that one. This softcover edition has been totally redesigned and laid out so it is now 112 pages. Aside from large photos being reduced in size and cropped (not really offensively so in most cases), there are others not so acceptable. I'll point to just one case and then you make up your own mind. In the hardcover edition, Selznick's search for the right actress to play Scarlett features three full-page, elegant photos of Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, and Joan Crawford, with 12 other actresses shown, four to a page on three other pages. In the softcover edition, KH, BD, and JC are cropped severely and put on one page, and all the others are simply not there. That's basically the idea of what has happened here. You decide.

Having read all three books recently released about Gone With the Wind I would have to say this is the weakest. It's basically a magazine in hardcover. Nothing new presented here. One glaring error was of a picture claiming to be of Margaret Mitchell visiting the Selznick Studios. She never did and the photo looks nothing like Margaret.Only for the very devoted. Otherwise save your money and buy one of the other books. The Scarlett Letters or The Making Of Gone With the Wind by Steve Wilson.

GREAT book! Enlarged pictures from the actual movie but most of all the background and a few secrets from it. Detail in black and white and especially the colorized portions of the movie. Gorgeous colors from the movie! A MUST for the serious GWTW collector. Place it on your coffee table in the living room and you will have GREAT conversations about it! Have a GWTW party! lol :-)

Very nice tribute to one of the greatest movies of all time. Not a whole lot of info, but plenty of photographs, and some behind the scenes tidbits.

great book....enjoyed the entire movie again just reading the book and looking at the wonderful photographs. you gotta own this one.

This book is fantastic. Lots of pictures and details which were new to me even though as an avid fan of GWTW for years I have read much about the making of this film.Great buy for the price.
