I'm having a difficult time with this book. The author uses the longest words he can possibly think of in his descriptions, etc, and it is distracting. He does this from the get go. Doesn't exactly make for a relaxing read. I'll finish it because I put some money into it. But I can't say I am enjoying it.

Even though I typically don't like fantasy-comedy novels, I did enjoy my time reading this novel. Breed has had a rough upbringing as Breed's mother is a wizard who has let magic get to her brain. She hates Breed and is a psychopath, but she needs Breed to complete the missions that she cannot do. This is only the beginning of Breed's troubles in this action-packed novel. One unique aspect of Breed is that their gender is not actually specified at any point. This could have been purposefully done to allow more readers to connect with the character, but I would like to see if Breed actually discusses this in any novels later in the series. However, even though Breed was made to feel relatable to all readers, I still struggled to connect with them. It seemed as if Breed had nothing to like in life. Even though they had a tough upbringing, it was still depressing to see negative things happening to breed continuously throughout the novel. I would have liked for Breed to have at least a little bit of good luck at some point in the novel. This actually made me a bit sad as I was reading the novel, and made Breed seem quite bitter for most of the story. The world building was definitely unique, but I did want to learn a bit more about the other creatures in the world. You will definitely encounter a lot as you read through the book, and the element of surprise definitely worked for the story, but I will have to read the next book in the series to get more of the big picture. The plot was fairly smooth. It took me a little bit of time to get into the story, but once I was in, I had no problem finishing the entire thing in almost one sitting. The character development was also intense, as Breed starts by only caring about what happens to them, but then is taken in as the priest's slave and has to care about what happens to him as well. If the priest goes down, so does Breed. I would recommend this book to lovers of dark fantasy, or regular fantasy lovers who don't mind some dark themes throughout the novel. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.Â

Some books grab you at the first paragraph. Some grab you at the first page. And some... some they don't grab. These are like reading a textbook for a course that you barely agreed to take. I can't tell you how bad the whole book is as I quit reading it before I found out if the scribe-demon stabs him with a feather quill. It was not my fault though, my eyes were scabbing over.

Okay, let's state the obvious. The author of this book is in no way a Hemingway. He's verbose as all get out. That said, it works. Some may find it annoying but, after I got used to his writing style, I felt it fit his story and characters well. As for the story? Fantastic! You just want to love and hate Breed at the same time. Fast paced, humorous, and intriguing, Dangerous to Know has all the earmarks of a potential classic in the making. This is one that I'll be buying the physical copies of the novels to adorn my bookshelf with if the rest of the series is just as good.

Dangerous To Know (The Chronicles of Breed #1) by K.T. Davies is a fun fantasy read! This world is fantastic with amazing creatures and cast of characters that really had me hooked. The dialogue was even terrific! It had humor scattered generously throughout the story with some dry humor added as well. Breed is the name of the main character and he is a strange character that gets into more trouble! It is non-stop! His mom is psychotic, he has a couple of rewards for his head, he ends up bond to a demon twice, jailed a couple of times, I forget how many times he gets beat up, shot, chased by a Dragon and a giant spider, and a bunch of guards and I am sure I forgot something. Loads of action! Fun and exciting, catch this book!

First, I have to give a little backstory. I used to be a bookworm. From a very young age I was reading all the time and fantasy novels were my favorite. It was easy to get lost in a book in pretty much any environment no matter how noisy or distracting.Six years ago I returned from my 3rd deployment of a year or more in the Middle-East and I was struggling. I was diagnosed with PTSD and Social Anxiety disorders. Since that deployment I've struggled with relaxing and losing myself in a book or movie. I struggle to find a book that looks interesting and find little excitement in looking for books in general. When I do pick up a new book it often takes me a long time to really get into it, if I do at all. There have been some exceptions, (most notably Joe Ambercrombie) but for the most part much of the joy from reading is gone. When I saw this book I believe it was free or perhaps .99 cents and had strong reviews. I was still skeptical but decided to try it and I am thankful that I did. It is one of the few books that captured my attention somewhat quickly and kept it. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and the darker tone to the story. The humor fit organically into the action and didn't seem forced (as much of Deadpool's humor does in the movies). The dialogue also felt authentic and the character arcs were interesting/compelling without having the character change completely by the end of the book. There were a couple of twists in the book but none of them felt convoluted. As soon as I finished this book I bought and downloaded the second book in the series. I also downloaded two free short stories from the author's website that are prequels to this book. I highly recommend this book!
